on the Effects of the Economic Crisis on GPG in Cyprus, Greece and Portugal

Within the framework of this project (Bridging the GPG. Transnational Cooperation: Cyprus Greece, Portugal) on 4 July 2016 was held a public presentation of the Comparative Analytical Report on the Effects of the Economic Crisis on Gender Pay Gap in Cyprus, Greece and Portugal. The event was organised by the project’s partner, INE-GSEE, and took place in Athens at hotel Titania. It was open to experts working on gender issues and GPG in particular, as well as academics, employees, employers and the general public.

The coordinator of the project, Evangelia Soumeli, introduced the event. She referred to the aims and objectives of the project and she shortly presented its major activities. She also explained the reasons why the team decided to undertake a comparative analysis on the effects of the economic crisis on Gender Pay Gap in the three participant countries, Cyprus, Greece, and Portugal.

Following Soumeli’s presentation, welcome speeches were given by the General Secretary for Gender Equality (Ministry of Interior), Fotini Kouvela, the Governor of the Greek Public Employment Agency, Maria Karamesini, and the Equality Secretary of GSEE, Katerina Bouyioukou.

The key note speakers who presented the results of the Comparative Analytical Report were Maria Liapi (from the Center for Research on Women’s Issues ‘DIOTIMA’) and Elias Ioakimoglou (scientific associate of INEK-PEO).

Moreover, the presentation was used as an opportunity for two additional speeches to be given, relevant to the overall aims of project. The one, by Elli Varhalama, was about “Confronting discrimination at work” and the other, by Giorgos Kritikidis, referred to the Job Evaluation Tool, which is a tool implemented under the project and aims to the evaluation of occupations free-from-gender-bias.
